The driven pheasants shooting in Silherovice (Schillersdorf, CZ) looks back to a centuries-long tradition. Beeing set up after the English model of the Rothschild family, the pheasant shooting inSilherovice is still an insider tip for a particularly beautiful and interesting hunt.

Under the able leadership of local professional hunters the pheasants in the last decades developed very well. Avid and passionate hunters ensure an interesting and very challenging hunting experience. Per hunting day there will be approximately six to seven drives, mostly four in the morning and three in the afternoon. The not too excessive morning drives will mainly be not to high often with the so called Contra-drives. In the afternoon the famous dingles and trenches will be used for hunting, providing hunters with the opportunity to test their hunting abilities.

The lunch break will either take place in the area itself - it is a hunting lodge with an open fireplace - or optionally in a former hunting lodge of the Rothschild family.

The presentation of the bagged pheasants takes place at the end of each hunting day. It is strictly following the traditions and special pattern of the Rothschild family as you can see in the picture.

This is as much to do with the diversity of the shooting landscape in combination with an embedded love of field sports in the UK, prevalent within Britain since medieval times. Precipitous slopes in Scotland, the rolling moorland of Northern England, deep wooded valleys in Wales or the more typical quintessential rural English countryside of the home counties, all go up to make it a country of classic shooting turf.

At WhereWiseMenShoot we offer an ever-expanding selection of shoots from across the UK. Where possible we will seek to show you the best that is to offer with individual links to the shoots. In some instances however, whether it be for reasons of privacy or simply short notice openings, only more limited details are available. Please do not hesitate to enquire if you would like more information.

Chelsham

One of the finest high bird pheasant shoots in England – Less than one hour from the centre of London. Chelsham shoot offers an exceptional combination of challenging high-bird driven pheasants mixed with partridges driven over ‘grouse butts’.

Chelsham shoot offers an exceptional combination of challenging high bird driven pheasant drives mixed with partridges driven over ‘grouse butts’. This is categorically not a shoot where you are going to encounter ‘hedge hoppers’ but one where a marksman’s eye for the high bird is almost a pre-requisite.

The Shooting

Those who are not acquainted with the topography of the South Downs will be in for a shock. The shoot, although within the M25 and consequently a stones throw from the centre of London, is a combination of unspoilt and isolated countryside amidst cavernous valleys. Guns are typically positioned in the troughs of these valleys with the birds being driven from game covers or woodland from one side of the valley to the other. Grassed slopes can diminish the perspective of height; however if you are in any doubt as to the quality of the birds a view down from the game covers whence the birds are driven will be more than enough to convince you to reach for a double choked gun or ‘High Pheasant’ cartridges!

There are over 100 acres of game crops strategically placed across the 38 drives of the shoot. These drives will give you the opportunity to shoot many different styles of birds from high ‘West Country’ style pheasants to partridge driven over ‘grouse butts’. The shoot typically caters for a team of 8 guns and you can expect bags of 2-300 birds. Guns are requested to assemble in the morning at the gun room in the centre of the estate, giving guests the opportunity to change or leave any spare gear prior to the day.

A typical day on the estate will cover 5-6 drives with a break in the morning for a glass or two of champagne. A simple snack of soup and sausages will be served at around midday at one of the huts on the estate with guests returning to the gun room for a full cooked lunch on completion of the day’s shooting.

Location

The estate is located within the M25 between Junction 5 and 6. Travel time from central London is approximately 1 hour, making this shoot extremely accessible whether you are traveling from the city or via Heathrow or Gatwick airport.

Alladale offers a unique opportunity to stay in the comfort of a private, luxurious highland lodge in the magnificent setting of one of Europe’s most spectacular wilderness reserves. You will have the opportunity to enjoy many activities and traditional highland pursuits by day, before returning to the lodge where a dedicated staff await with roaring log fires, fine food, drinks and many other additional comforts you may desire.

Originally established as a sporting lodge in 1877, the lodge has recently readjusted its focus away from that of a straightforward Highland stalking lodge to one which combines both the traditional sporting ethos as well as a conservational approach with a forward-looking goal of ‘restoring the balance of nature’.

The Red Deer Stalking

The estate has established itself as a wilderness reserve with a view to helping regenerate the entire ecosystem, taking it back many hundreds of years to a time when wolves once roamed free and the hills were comprised of original Caledonian woodland. To this end the estate runs a very careful Red Deer management programme with a view to maintaining the deer numbers at a level where a natural balance is restored. The estate has two dedicated stalkers who will look after guests whilst out on the hill and each man can look after parties of two at a time. In traditional Victorian fashion, on completion of a successful stalk highland ponies are used to help carry deer off the hill.

Alladale Lodge

Set amidst 23,000 acres of majestic scenery on the borders of Sutherland and Ross-shire, Alladale Lodge is a magnificent informal private escape. Alladale should appeal not just to sportsmen but also to family and friends seeking an invigorating taste of the Scottish Highlands combined with the comfort afforded by a luxurious Highland lodge. Alladale has recently been completely redecorated to the highest standards by Laura Ashley. Your surroundings will be inspiring throughout your stay whether you are looking out from the lodge with its inspiring views of the glens and mountains, relaxing in your room or by a roaring log fire, enjoying a spa or sharing a glass of wine around the gleaming dining room table. All you have to do is provide the company.
